Fast cars and babies

I was always very dismissive of mothers who said that their lives had changed, that they thought differently, all those annoying cliches one hears in the pre-baby years. Well, they are true. Now I have had my son there has been a seismic shift in my attitude to driving (among other things). I always had fast cars, the last one sold only a few months before he was born. The list included a Celica GT4, Isuzu Piazza Turbo with Lotus handling (you have to be true geek to remember that car), Audi S4, Mitsubishi Evo X and so on.  I even got my racing licence last year, a couple of months before I got pregnant.

So what has changed? Well, certainly my behaviour on the road. Someone said to me a couple of years ago that I wouldn’t live to see 35 if I carried on the way I was going. As I don’t want a Police investigation it will suffice to say I might have slightly exceeded the national speed limit now and again…

That isn’t to say babies and fast cars don’t mix. However it has to be the right car, and driven sensibly. Which somewhat defeats the point of said fast car.
I think from now on my high speed driving will be confined to a track in a properly kitted out car, and the Maserati driven along rather gently with little Felix in the back.

That said, if Mercedes want to loan me the truly stupendous C63 AMG estate, I’m not going to say no….ImageMy old Evo at Goodwood circuit a couple of years ago.
